The Jealous Wall

Robert, Earl of Belvedere, believing his wife to be guilty of adultery with his younger brother who lived on the adjoining estate, commissioned an artificial ruin of an abbey to block the view of his brother’s mansion.

This Jealous Wall was constructed at enormous expense under the supervision of the celebrated Florentine architect Barradotte. The grounds and buildings of Belvedere are now in public ownership and have undergone a multi-million euro renovation.
